Beaulieu v, City of Alabaster
Mrs. Beaulieu successfully argued her own First Amendment case in federal court. She had been cited and threatened with arrest by the City of Alabaster for violating their ordinance when she ran for Circuit Judge. She had displayed a political sign on her own building. Donna sued the city in federal court and Donna won. The Federal court ruled that the city had violated the First Amendment. The City then appealed to the 11th Circuit, but Donna won again. The city tried to take the case to the Supreme Court of the United States, but the SCOUS declined to hear the case. This case has been cited and used many times by other attorneys.
Mrs. Beaulieu has challenged other state laws and their interpretations through various methods.
Beaulieu v. Sheriffs' Office.
Mrs. Beaulieu sued a Sheriff with a Second Amendment case against a sheriff who refused to issue a permit to carry a concealed weapon - despite what Mrs. Beaulieu felt the law required.
Beaulieu V. Alabama Onsite Wastewater Board.
She also sued a state agency that had a law that did not allow older disabled adults, among others, to get assistance with certain work on their own property.
In both instances of the cases above the State changed the law.
These cases and her other works demonstrate Mrs. Beaulieu's commitment to fighting for what it right!
